Quins Secure Major Signing

Carmarthen Quins are delighted to announce the signing of current Tongan International Sililo Martens. Martens will bring a wealth of experience to the squad having played regional rugby last year for Llanelli Scarlets and the previous 4 years for Sale in the Guinness Premiership. Martens is a scrum half by trade but is comfortable and more than capable of playing at centre. He has in fact played internationally in this position. Sililo will join up with his new colleagues in July after playing in the Pacific Rim Cup for Tonga. (Matches will be shown live on Sky TV).

Team Manager, Steff Thomas, said of the signing, “We are extremely pleased to get Sililo on board and it is a statement of our intent that we wish to do well next year and are prepared to add quality to our squad in order to do so. Together with Ricky Richards and Llyr Lane we now know that we have great competition for the scrum half jersey as well as the option to feature Martens in the centre”.

Head Coach, Max Howells, is equally enthusiastic. “Sililo will be a great signing for our club. He will bring a lift to the whole club and the difference he will make to the squad is immense. Although he has obvious pedigree I still see Ricky and Llyr giving him a good run for his money and putting him under pressure to perform. In general terms I am pleased with the squad we have put together this summer. We have left no stone unturned in our hunt for the right players to surprise many teams next season”.

The squad will start their training on Saturday 13th. June and a full announcement will be made shortly with regard to pre-season fixtures.
