Quins Finish Season with an Exciting Win

Last Saturday a large crowd at the Park witnessed a feast of attacking rugby as Carmarthen Quins took on Narberth in another top of the table clash.

From the kick off Narberth tried to run the ball but good tackling kept them embedded in their own half. Eventually they were forced back to their own line and, when they failed to secure a bouncing ball, Ricky Richards was there to claim the touchdown. Craig Jones added the points.

A few minutes later Craig Jones was again in the action when he stepped off his right foot and broke through 30m. before taking the tackle and offloading to Alex Wilkins. Wilkins finished off the glorious move and again Jones converted.

A couple of minutes later Jones completed a 32m. penalty and it was looking “plain sailing” for the Quins. However, the Otters had different ideas and, still in the first quarter, reduced the deficit when a well executed rolling maul gave Rob Morgan the chance to dive over the line for a try.

  Premier Division Entry Criteria

It is with regret that we report that Carmarthen R.F.C. Has failed the criteria for entry into the Premier Division of Welsh Rugby. We failed because the lights at the Park were not to the required standard. They were tested by contractors of the Welsh Rugby Union on the 10th October 2007, but the result of that test was not conveyed to us till the 4th December 2007, despite repeated requests for a report, with the deadline for the criteria being the 31st January 2008. These lights were used by us only once during our two years sojourn in the Premier Division, when the B.B.C. stated that our lights were adequate, because they used their own generator.

Although Carmarthenshire County Council gave assurances that the new lighting would be in place well before the start of next season this availed us nothing; but we thank those who endeavored unsuccessfully for over two yearsto improve the sporting facility at Carmarthen Park.
